Prior to joining the Firm, Marie was General Counsel for a New York Metropolitan demolition and heavy civil construction company. As General Counsel, she reviewed and drafted contracts, non-disclosure agreements, severance agreements, and delay and claim documentation. She provided legal advice and consultation to the corporate officers and staff on all issues presented to the Company including contracts, claim analysis, tender of claims, risk management and pre-claim investigations. She developed policies, protocol, best practices and training to mitigate risks and to ensure compliance with applicable laws. Marie provided the ongoing training of the Company’s employees regarding ethics, compliance, discrimination and harassment, and M/W/DBE compliance. She was responsible for oversight of all claims and litigation against the Company, including retention and oversight of outside counsel, when necessary. In addition, she addressed all employment matters for the Company, including union grievances and internal complaints.
She started her legal career, after graduating from Hofstra University, School of Law, at the New York County District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney, where she was a felony assistant in a Trial Bureau. Upon leaving the DA’s office she went into private practice, and ultimately was a partner, at a premier law firm on Long Island where she represented all licensed professionals, as well as other clients, including contractors, in all aspects of pre-claim management and litigation including construction and commercial litigation and general and professional liability defense, in a myriad of circumstances. During her tenure at the firm, Marie also represented management in all aspects of employment practice litigation and claims including, but not limited to, harassment, discrimination and retaliation claims predicated upon race, sex, religion, ethnicity and age, as well as FMLA, FHA, and ADA claims, in state and federal courts and at the administrative level in New York and New Jersey
Marie is admitted to the New York, New Jersey and Florida State Courts, the Federal District Courts for the Eastern and Southern District of New York and District of New Jersey, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second and Third District, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Bethpage Federal Credit Union, and served on the supervisory committee prior to becoming a board member. She is and arbitrator on the American Arbitration Association construction, employment and consumer panels. She is also a member of the Dispute Resolution Board Foundation
